This page is where we appeal for help from our readers, both for our own projects and those of our friends in the bus preservation movement. In each case, contact details are given so that you can respond if you may be able to help, or if you know someone who can.
SIGN THE PETITION to bring back the rolling VED exemption for preserved vehicles! In the 1990s legislation was
introduced whereby vehicles registered before 1st January 1973 were eligible for a free vehicle licence. This was intended
to be a "rolling" exemption so that all vehicles would get a free licence from their 25th birthday onwards. But the new Labour
Government in 1997 decided to "freeze" this date at 1st January 1973. We now have vehicles almost 40 years old, seeing
occasional use but paying road tax at the full rate.
This on-line petition, created by Daryl J Davey, asks the Government to re-introduce the old "30 year rule". It needs
100,000 signatures to become the subject of a debate in Parliament. The closing date to sign is 5th August 2012, but (as
of 23rd November) there were only 11,261 signatures. At this rate it will not succeed, so please tell everyone about it.
If you sign the petition it gives you an option to share it on your Facebook page, please do this if you can.

URGENTLY NEEDED - drawings of a Duple A coach body (the 27' 6" version). Peter Skerry, in Malta, is rebuilding a former Wallace Arnold coach (KUM 386) but needs drawings to replicate pieces for the body. The full story and Peter's contact details are on the Maltese Connection page in the "Features" section of this website.
NEEDED - GUY ARAB FUEL TANK. At Dewsbury Bus Museum work is now progressing on our oldest bus, a 1945 Guy Arab (CCX 801). Having spent many years in store at various locations, including a period as an unofficial store for parts of other buses, a few pieces have been lost. Some of the minor things can be replicated, but the most urgent need is for a fuel tank, which the Owner's Manual describes as follows:
"The fuel system consists of a 28-gallon capacity lead-coated fuel tank, fitted on the offside frame member, and it is fitted with an extra large quick action type filler, and also a magnetic leak-proof fuel guage. The feed is by fuel pump mounted on the engine."
Obviously it may be almost impossible to get hold of an original, but if you know the whereabouts of something that will fit we would be extremely grateful if you could contact us.
LEYLAND NATIONAL RIVETS! We have sourced the replacement panels we need for the Leyland National, but Leyland used unique specially designed rivets on the bodywork, which required a special tool for fitting and removing. If anyone out there knows where we can buy rivets and hire/borrow/buy the special tool, please contact us.
We are searching for any photographs of our Leyland PD2 (BHL 682) when it was in passenger service for West Riding, before becoming a driver trainer.
We are also looking for photographs of our Leyland National (XUA 73X) whilst in passenger service for United, when it wore the livery shown here. (This photo was taken upon the rescue from the scrap yard).
