West Riding Leyland National 73 (XUA 73X) is back in the restoration programme, making good progress, and could possibly be completed next year.

West Riding Leyland PD2 640 (BHL 682) is coming along in leaps and bounds, it is beginning to look like this bus may make its first appearance at Heath Common in May 2012 - fingers crossed! On 12th October it moved under its own power for the first time since 1995.
RUNNING DAY - A new event organised by our friends, the West Riding Bus Group, took place on 22nd May 2011. Based on Heath Common, near Wakefield, a dozen preserved buses operated on service stretching as far as Dewsbury and Ossett in one direction, to Castleford and Pontefract in the other. In spite of the windy weather, hundreds of people turned up from all over the country to enjoy a spectacular day. All of our "runners" took part.
The full story, with plenty of pictures, can be found on a different page, by clicking HERE.
In this picture, crowds of families and bus enthusiasts queue up to ride on the mystery tour with Southdown 267, or the service journey to Wakefield on Huddersfield 472.
Almost 2000 passenger journeys were made on the day!
This has been our most successful open day ever, with seven buses running in service and a record turnout of visitors. We had a massive publicity drive, including the articles below, reproduced from the Dewsbury Reporter both before and after the event.
Finding fame at last in the photograph are volunteers Tony Salmon, Andrew Tindall, Steve Hurley, Andrew Beever, Mark Byard, Richard Hall and Tony Hanson. And the bus? Well it's the inside of Kelvyn Waites' Halifax 35 (Leyland Leopard PJX 35).
A full report of the open day, complete with a nine-minute video by Paul Salmon, can be seen on the "Open Day" page of this website, where there are a few links to other peoples' websites with photographs and comments.
A big "thank you" to everyone who had any part in this - the year is off to a flying start! Now, we're working hard getting ready for our Running Day in conjunction with the Heath Common Classic Car Rally on Sunday 22nd May. (Click HERE).
Our programme of school visits continues to grow in popularity. St John's Infants' School have used our services for two years running and were so impressed that they had the Dewsbury Reporter present to record the event when we returned in February 2011. The school even photographed each child on the steps of the bus and had their pictures mounted on key-rings for the children to take home. If you are a primary school teacher and think we may be able to help you, please look at the "School Visits" page of this website.
