This bus was delivered to the West Riding Automobile Company Ltd of Barnsley Road, Wakefield as fleet number 164. In 1971 West Riding had a fleet-wide re-numbering, when 164 became 255. It continued in public service until 29th December 1979 when, after accumulating 453,759 miles, it was parked up. Some 14 months later it was taken into the workshops to become a driver training vehicle, emerging in March 1981, re-numbered as A26. This role was to last just over two years, until July 1983. The West Riding records show it as recording 466,304 miles in its lifetime with the company.

The West Riding Omnibus Preservation Society purchased A26 for preservation on 3rd January 1985. After a period of storage it was restored to its original form as 164 by society members. 164 was parked up from 1996-2001 awaiting an engine rebuild after it broke its crankshaft, but it is now operational again.
Latest update (23rd November 2011): After being in store for almost five years, this bus was serviced, fitted with new batteries and passed the MOT test on Monday 24th October 2011. It featured as a static exhibit at the Heart of the Pennines Rally in Halifax six days later, then carried passengers again for the first time at our Autumn Open Day on 13th November.
