577 is seen in Leeds Bus Station around 1990, then in March 2007 in the bus wash at Selby, and on Dewsbury Bus Station running our shuttle service.
Fleet number: 577
Registration: A577 NWX
Layout: H45/32F
New: May 1984
Withdrawn: 8th September 2007
Chassis: Leyland Olympian ON 1331
Body: ECW 25870
The West Riding Group of companies bought 113 of these buses between 1982 and 1986.
577 spent all but the last year of its working life at Belle Isle depot, being transferred in 2006 to Selby. The official "Last ECW Olympian" was 604 (B604 UUM) which returned to Dewsbury for its final day on 30th September 2006. After this, 577 and 603 (B603 UUM) saw a bit more service at Selby, 603 bowing out a few weeks later. For the next ten months, 577 was the only semi-automatic bus in the service fleet.
Arriva kindly allowed us to use it on our shuttle service at the March 2007 Open Day.
It was purchased for preservation by Steve Hurley, a member of Dewsbury Bus Museum, and passed its MOT test in May 2011. It is currently in the process of being prepared for a full external repaint back into the Caldaire green and cream West Riding Buses Livery. Once completed and taxed we hope to see it on the local rally scene in 2012.
